Safety in Barcelona
Barcelona is considered one of the safest cities in the world. However, it’s important to stay alert for pickpockets. I recommend getting familiar with the safety tips below. If you need assistance during your visit, please reach out, and I will do my best to help.
- Avoid carrying original documents. Leave them in a safe at your hotel and keep a photocopy with you.
- Do not carry your wallet or a mobile phone in your back pocket.
- Avoid placing phones, cameras, or wallets on tables in restaurants. Pickpockets often approach tourists asking for directions, covering their belongings with a map, and then stealing them.
- Try not to display money in public places.
- Wear your bag in front of you in crowded areas.
- Never leave your backpack or bag unattended.
- Do not place your bag on the back of a chair indoors.
- Maintain a safe distance from those trying to engage you, and avoid distractions.
- Be particularly cautious in the metro. If you notice a group of people arguing, it may be a distraction tactic to divert attention.
- Stay vigilant when watching street performances.
- Be careful if you wear high-end watches, as there have been reports of pickpockets specifically targeting owners of expensive timepieces.
